SoulMeetsBody
A dance+self-esteem workshop
Our Mission:
The gift of a dancer is the relationship to the body, and the body houses the most precious thing, our Soul.
Our goal is to teach dancers how to enhance their relationship to their own self, to demonstrate other ways to relate to/utilize dance, and to further create a healthier relationship between body and soul. We want to celebrate YOU! All of you—everything that makes you who you are. Our plan? Let’s get to the inside so that you can “perform better” on the outside.
The intentions of this workshop are formulated around the dancer looking to evolve their relationship to dance. So often times we, as dancers, are trained to win. Win the job, win the audition, win the lead. We are taught to train our bodies to look and react perfectly, gracefully, effortlessly, all the while emulating some form of emotion/meaning to the audience. Our minds are trained early to expect nothing less than perfection from our selves (body, mind, school, relationships). However, no one told us that this wasn't what the world really was about. Dancing is taught to be all or nothing. Yet, life is full of gray areas. Life is not perfect. It’s messy and there is no such thing as perfect. Hell, we are even taught that if we don't become "successful" by 24 year old, we are "too old". Like being old is a BAD thing?! What they DON’T tell us is that life becomes more, enriching as well get older. Our life experiences actually make great art for we know what life actually feels like in our bodies (cause we have lived through pain, love, sadness, joy) and we can translate it into dance.
